According to a statement issued on the eNaira website, the organisers explained the overall function and benefit of the currency and its value to Nigeria’s economy. The statement goes thus, “eNaira is a Central Bank of Nigeria-issued digital currency that provides a unique form of money denominated in Naira. eNaira serves as both a medium of exchange and a store of value, offering better payment prospects in retail transactions when compared to cash payments.” The currency which was formally scheduled to be launched on October 1, 2021, was later postponed as a result of activities billed for Nigeria’s 61st-anniversary celebrations. The Academic staff union of university national executive committee meeting ended in dispute today has the house got divided over strike actions. The union executives held a meeting on Saturday to decide on the next step as regards the inability of the FG to meet up with their demands. ASUU had previously given the federal government ultimatum to the end of August to meet up with their demands, but as of yesterday Friday, 3rd September, the union said FG is yet to respond to their request which made them (ASUU) call a NEC meeting but unfortunately, there was a divided house as some accepted the union go on strike while some kicked against it... According to the president of the association, Pro. Emmanuel Osodeke the executives will meet again on Monday to conclude on the next step.
