Opinion: Schools resumption should be next year...

  Of a truth the school resumption has really put some parents in a tight corner not just them but also the students, schools where all closed down in 17 March 2020 because of the pandemic, and since then students have been at home since. Recently there was an announcement that schools should begin to reopen, and in some state school has started already although it's a good thing that schools are beginning to reopen, but it will be good and reasonable if it is extended to next year January and here is why. At the cause of the lockdown so many things happen, things where not moving, businesses stagnant se.o many people were sack from their job because the company couldn't afford to pay it workers anymore, and that has really affected some parents and it will be difficult to keep up with any demand from schools now because some have up to 4 to 5 children. ASUU is still on strike – UNILAG chairman

  Contrary to speculations making the rounds in the social media that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has called off strike, nothing of such is the case, investigation has shown. Commenting on the development, the Chairman of the University of Lagos, UNILAG chapter of the union, Dr Dele Ashiru, told our correspondent on Saturday that nothing of such happened. Ashiru, who is also a member of the National Executive Committee of the union, said the union was still on strike. “If we are going to call off our going strike, there is process that will be followed and nothing of such has been done, ” he said. Recall that the union embarked on strike early March, this year over some issues.

 Fire gutted the Ondo State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday, destroying Smart Card Readers . This came barely one month to the governorship election in the state . Nigeria’s debt rises by N2.3trn, hits N31trn – DMO

The Debt Management Office on Wednesday released Nigeria’s total public debt stock as of June 30, 2020, and put the country’s entire debt at N31trn, indicating an increase ofIt N2.38trn within a space of three months. Nigeria’s total public debt stock includes the debt stock of the Federal Government, the 36 states, and the Federal Capital Territory. Just as the country’s public debt stock, the DMO also released reports on Nigeria’s Actual External Debt Service Payments in Second Quarter, 2020, as well as Nigeria’s External Debt Stock as of June 30, 2020. ASSU Hits Back At FGs School Reopening Date

  Today, we came across some rumors going online that the federal government (FG), through the Minister of Education, have announced 21st September 2020 as the Resumption Date for Universities, Polytechnics, Secondary Schools and Primary Schools. Please be informed that the FG is yet to announce an exact date for resumption of academic activities for any category of classes (except for candidates writing WAEC/NABTEB/BECE).. However, some state government like Lagos, Delta, Osun, etc have announced the resumption date for their schools.   The Federal Government says state governments and school administrators should start making preparations for the full reopening of schools in the country . However , the FG announced the resumption of graduating pupils effective August 4 , 2020, to write this year ’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination from August 17 , 2020, through September 12 , 2020. Gunmen kidnap four in Calabar

  Kidnappers have abducted four persons in the last six days in Calabar , Cross River State . One of them is a lecturer at the Cross River University of Technology , Dr Anthony Egbe . Egbe was abducted on August 29 , 2020 at Asabanka in Akpabuyo . Another victim was Mr Effiom Asuquo , who was kidnapped on September 1. A yet - to-be -identified pastor on Atu Street was also whisked away to an unknown location , while another woman , identified as Promise Edet , was kidnapped by the gunmen . BREAKING: Three Persons Arrested In Ondo For Abduction Of Businessman

  Three persons suspected to be part of a kidnap syndicate that had been terrorising the people of Ondo State have been arrested. They were apprehended after abducting a middle-aged man, Mr Kunle Agbayewa, in a popular sawmill at Owaani in Idoani, Ose Local Government Area of the state.  Agbayewa was kidnapped barely 24 hours after the Chief Medical Director of the General Hospital, Idoani, Mr Olufemi Adeogun, and two other health workers, were abducted.  Reporters gathered that the suspects stormed the sawmill and seized Agbayewa at gunpoint before taking him him away.  A resident of the community, Comfort Ilesanmi, who confirmed the abduction, said the suspects were Fulani herdsmen, who had been parading the area. She said, "The herdsmen entered the sawmill and kidnapped him immediately but people around quickly raised the alarm."   Teachers and parents in Lagos State have expressed reservations about the September 21 resumption date for pupils and students in both primary and secondary schools, describing it as unrealistic for public schools. Medical experts approached to address the worries only expressed divided opinions on the matter. Teachers and parents said they were in doubt how COVID-19 guidelines and safety protocols would be met when necessary arrangements had not been made in some schools. Rivers begins demolition of houses for flyover project

  THE Rivers State Government on Wednesday began the demolition of property to pave the way for the expansion and repairs of the Rumuola flyover project in Obio / Akpor LGA of the state .
