Recently there was an announcement that schools should begin to reopen, and in some state school has started already although it's a good thing that schools are beginning to reopen, but it will be good and reasonable if it is extended to next year January and here is why.   Contrary to speculations making the rounds in the social media that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has called off strike, nothing of such is the case, investigation has shown. Commenting on the development, the Chairman of the University of Lagos, UNILAG chapter of the union, Dr Dele Ashiru, told our correspondent on Saturday that nothing of such happened. Ashiru, who is also a member of the National Executive Committee of the union, said the union was still on strike. “If we are going to call off our going strike, there is process that will be followed and nothing of such has been done, ” he said. Recall that the union embarked on strike early March, this year over some issues.

  The Secretary to the Federal Government and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed yesterday that the PTF will not shy away from the possibility of another lockdown, adding that the PTF will recommend it to the President who will make the final decisions.  Fire gutted the Ondo State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday, destroying Smart Card Readers . This came barely one month to the governorship election in the state . The Debt Management Office on Wednesday released Nigeria’s total public debt stock as of June 30, 2020, and put the country’s entire debt at N31trn, indicating an increase ofIt N2.38trn within a space of three months. Nigeria’s total public debt stock includes the debt stock of the Federal Government, the 36 states, and the Federal Capital Territory. Just as the country’s public debt stock, the DMO also released reports on Nigeria’s Actual External Debt Service Payments in Second Quarter, 2020, as well as Nigeria’s External Debt Stock as of June 30, 2020.   The Federal Government has directed the Chief Medical Directors and Managing Directors of federal tertiary hospitals to “immediately ” commence the use of consultants and doctors on the National Youth Service Corps to provide routine services .   Today, we came across some rumors going online that the federal government (FG), through the Minister of Education, have announced 21st September 2020 as the Resumption Date for Universities, Polytechnics, Secondary Schools and Primary Schools. Please be informed that the FG is yet to announce an exact date for resumption of academic activities for any category of classes (except for candidates writing WAEC/NABTEB/BECE).. However, some state government like Lagos, Delta, Osun, etc have announced the resumption date for their schools. Its worth adding that FG has given a go ahead order to all states ready to reopen their schools. But they (FG) through the Minister of Education didn’t announce a date for reopening of schools.   Kidnappers have abducted four persons in the last six days in Calabar , Cross River State . One of them is a lecturer at the Cross River University of Technology , Dr Anthony Egbe . Egbe was abducted on August 29 , 2020 at Asabanka in Akpabuyo . Another victim was Mr Effiom Asuquo , who was kidnapped on September 1. A yet - to-be -identified pastor on Atu Street was also whisked away to an unknown location , while another woman , identified as Promise Edet , was kidnapped by the gunmen .
