Worried by the acute rate of unemployment among Nigerian youths, President Muhammadu Buhari made one of the most remarkable speeches on May 29, 2016 (a day formally set aside for Democracy Day celebration) that 500, 000 Nigerian graduates would be employed through his Social Intervention Programme (SIP) which has N-Power under it. At its kick-off stage in 2016 200, 000 unemployed Nigerian graduates were employed and onboarded with billions of Naira spent on N-Power monthly.
What is N-Power?
The programme, N-Power means Nigeria ways of empowering the Nigerian youths through government-backed opportunities. The opportunities include training of the unemployed youths so that they would be employable and be self-reliant.
When the government of the All Progressive Congress (APC) announced it would employ 500, 000 through N-Power in 2016 the objectives for the initiative was set aside to include:
1. To put under control the rate of unemployment among Nigerian graduates and youths who roam the street jobless.
